Overview
Guitar Center is the world's largest musical instruments retailer. This project delivered a new homepage plus the global header and footer used across the entire site.
Implemented the designers' specs as valid HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript for Guitar Center's corporate CMS theme, and rolled out the header and footer globally, working with Guitar Center's designers, product managers and back-end developers.
What Jonathan did
- Converted the designs into valid HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript
- Cut the homepage weight to 1.1 MB
- Global header and footer across the site
- The new homepage, with custom overlays and an AJAX slider
- Global elements such as buttons, grid and a 3D slider
- JSONP newsletter sign-up and form validation
Challenges
- Full functionality in Internet Explorer 8
- Very fast page loads
- Loading sliders via AJAX
